Uninstall Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Release Candidate

Microsoft had recently released Service Pack 1 Release Candidate for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008. It had two new major features: RemoteFX and Dynamic Memory for Windows Server 2008 but if you are a regular Windows 7 user, it was a collection of all the previously released updates over Windows Updates. So if you are done testing it, here’s how you can uninstall the pack.

  • Go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program.
  • Service Pack isn’t listed under all programs, so click on “View installed updates” link on the left sidebar.
  • Find Service Pack for Microsoft Windows in the listing and click on “Uninstall.”
  • Conform the Prompt by clicking “Yes.”  Windows 7 will start the uninstallation process, this can take anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour depending on the speed of your computer.

That’s it!

Service Pack 1 RC expires on Nov 30, 2011 and you will start getting reminders about it from August 30, 2011. After that you’ll need to either upgrade to final version of SP1 or uninstall RC version of SP1 to be able to use Windows.
