Bulk Plugin Installation is a free WordPress plugin that allows you to install multiple plugins on a site with the click of a button. If you regularly install a set of plugins on each WordPress installation that you do, then you’ll surely find this plugin handy.
After installing and activating, it adds a new installation form in the Install Plugins page. In the form’s textarea, simply type in the names of the plugins or the download URLs of one or more plugins that you want to install, and hit the Install now button.
All your entered plugins are now automatically download and installed in one go. However, the plugins are not automatically activated. You’ll have to do that manually. It is already possible to bulk activate/deactivate plugins from the dashboard, so this shouldn’t be much of an issue.
The plugin accepts the following inputs:
- Name: Bulk Plugin Installation
- Page URL: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bulk-plugin-installation/
- Direct-link: http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/bulk-plugin-installation.1.0.zip
You can also install plugins that are hosted outside of wordpress.org, as long as you use the direct download URL.
About two years back, I had posted about a service named Custom WordPress Package builder that
allowed users to create custom WordPress installation file based on their selection of themes and plugins. That was a useful service when you’d to use the same WordPress setup with slight variation for each site. Unfortunately, the service has been discontinued. To some extent to the service, this little gem will be handy to install your favorite plugins in one go.
All-in-all, Bulk Plugin Installation will certainly save you time and effort needed when compared with the current plugin installation method in WordPress. You can grab it from the official repository.
