Rearrange Chrome and Firefox Tabs with Keyboard Shortcuts

If you work with a lot of tabs open in the browser and if you’re a keyboard person, then you might have had the desire to move and rearrange tabs at different positions using hotkeys. Unfortunately, Chrome (Windows & Mac) and Firefox do not have such a feature built-in, so here are two extensions that will add this functionality for you:

Keyboard Shortcuts to Reorder Tabs for Chrome

Keyboard Shortcuts to Reorder Tabs is a simple extension for Chrome that enables reordering of tabs by holding CTRL + SHIFT and pressing Page Up or Page Down to move the tab to the left or right.

Install it from the Chrome Web Store, and you’re good to go! It doesn’t have a configuration page or icon, so it works completely invisible just like if it’s a native feature.

List of available shortcuts:

• Ctrl + Shift + Page Up: Move active tab left
• Ctrl + Shift + Page Down: Move active tab right
• Ctrl + Shift + 1: Move active tab to first position
• Ctrl + Shift + 9: Move active tab to last position
• Ctrl + Shift + 2…8: Move active tab to nth position

MoveTabs for Firefox

MoveTabs works similar to the Chrome extension, but it also allows you to set your own custom shortcuts.

Default MoveTabs Shortcuts:

• Ctrl + Shift + Page Up: Move active tab left
• Ctrl + Shift + Page Down: Move active tab right
• Ctrl + Shift + Home: Move active tab to first position
• Ctrl + Shift + End: Move active tab to last position

Both these extensions will help you save a good amount of time in your computing hours.
