Facebook has launched a new app for regular cellphone users rather than those with smartphones. The app, developed in partnership with Snaptu, is designed to provide easy navigation, synchronization of contacts with the phone, and fast scrolling through news feeds and photos.
The Java app will work on more than 2,500 different models from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG, Samsung and others.
The app is offered free of any data charges from 14 different cellular carriers for a period of 90 days. Although, it is to be noted that the trial period begins the day the carrier begins offering the service and not when the user downloads the application.
The following Nine mobile carriers will launch the service today:
- Dialog (Sri Lanka)
- Life (Ukraine)
- Play (Poland)
- StarhHub (Singapore)
- STC (Saudi Arabia)
- Three (Hong Kong)
- Tunisiana (Tunisia)
- Viva (Dominican Republic)
- Vodafone (Romania)
These providers will follow soon:
- Mobilicity (Canada)
- Reliance (India)
- Telcel (Mexico)
