Private browsing is a very useful feature built into Firefox, it’s especially useful when you don’t want any of your browsing history to be left behind on the host computer.
Now, you can start private browsing manually by pressing Ctrl+Shift+P anytime. However, if you always want Firefox to be in this mode then this little hack will do the trick.
- Launch Firefox, enter about:config in the URL bar and hit enter.
- You will be prompted with a warning as below. Click on the button and you’ll get Firefox’s advanced preferences screen.
- Once there enter browser.privatebrowsing.autostart in filter box to get only this result, or scroll down the page till your find it. The default value is set to false, double-click the text and its value will change to true.
- Exit Firefox and the next time you start, it will be in private browsing mode.
Note: You cannot change back into normal mode by pressing Ctrl+Shift+P with this hack enabled. To go back to normal follow the above steps and change the value of browser.privatebrowsing.autostart to false.
