Navigate Around A Mall With FastMall

Posted on October 11, 2010 by Renji | Short URL: http://sumtips.com/?p=1050

Fast Mall is an app that help you know exactly where everything is located at any shopping mall right on your iPhone. It has a Virtual Map feature that shows you a detailed map of the mall and then overlays it with important information such as where the restrooms are, where the theater is, and it also allows you to select a store or location in the mall and get turn by turn directions to it no matter where you are in the mall. All this can be done without the need of GPS. It can also recalculate your route to include elevators, if you are shopping with a stroller.

Finding a mall is simple, just click on the “Malls” button. This will show malls that are closest to your current location, but you can also search for any mall by using the search bar.

There are other features in FastMall which you can use without purchasing anything:

  • A basic store directory can be accessed for your local mall.
  • You can read or add a review of any store or restaurant.
  • In the My Lists section you can list things that you need to buy.
  • The Mall Genius is community driven and allows users to contribute information to the app.
  • A useful feature is the Where Did I Park? section. Here you can tap a record button that will mark your car’s GPS location on a map and help you find it later on.
  • The Deals section let’s you know about the deals currently available at stores in your mall.
  • In the Favorites, you can save a list of your favorite malls.
  • You can also submit changes that need to be made to any of the store’s information at a mall.
  • If a store, restaurant or if even an entire mall is missing from FastMall, then you can add it.
  • Status can be shared on Facebook and Twitter to let your friends know what your up to at the mall.

FastMall provides a good, basic information about your local mall but for it to to be really useful you’ll need to unlock a virtual map. One may not get lost in a local mall or need a virtual map to navigate but it still can be useful if you are travelling and visiting a new mall.

The Fast Mall app itself is free but you will need to pay to download a virtual map.

My favorite location tool is GoZiggity. What I really like about it is how personalized it is. Based on whom or what I’m shopping for, GoZiggity narrows down stores so I waste no time finding exactly what I need. I can even have all the information, in itinerary form, sent directly to my phone!

GoZiggity just came out on Lehigh Valley Mall’s website as “my mall trip”!

Personally, I don’t really like going to the mall – I never know where to go for what I need and I always just go to the same stores, and usually leave with nothing at all! I tried “my mall trip” on Lehigh Valley Mall’s website when I was looking for a birthday present for my mom. After providing a little info, I was directed to a few different stores, given a map, and was even able to just have everything sent right to my phone so I could have my itinerary with me while I shopped. Painless, easy, and fast – not to mention, I found a great gift for my mom :)

I like FastMall, but after reading this post I tried ‘My Mall Trip’ since I’m from the Lehigh Valley. I found this tool to be incredibly efficient. I used it a few weeks ago when I ventured out to go Christmas shopping. Based on who I was looking for (specifying down to their personality traits), I was recommended stores that carry products that suite each person. This tool got me to the stores I needed to get to and saved me loads of frustration.
