If you are someone who play with the Windows Registry, then you are going to love the add-on Open In RegEdit for Firefox. As the name suggests, this add-on enables you to open a registry key specified on webpage directly in the Windows Registry. That’s right, no need to manually open Regedit, and browsing through the complex key trees.

After installing add-on, simply highlight the registry key, right-click on it, and select the new context menu option ‘Open in Regedit.’ That will open the Registry editor, and automatically navigate to the highlighted key.

The add-on is available for download from the official Firefox repository, but unfortunately it was last updated by the original developer on March 25, 2009, and only works till Firefox 3.6. But, that doesn’t mean it won’t work with the latest version. With a simple hack, you can make it work with the latest version.

To do so, download the extension (link below), and open ‘addon-4478-latest.xpi’ file with WinRAR, or a similar compression utility. Inside it, you will find a file named ‘install.rdf.’ Open that file with Notepad, and look for the following line:

<em:minVersion>2.0</em:minVersion>
<em:maxVersion>3.2a1pre</em:maxVersion>

Change the highlighted value above to 5.0, 6.0, or even 7.0, and save the file. That will make it work to Firefox 7.0. Now you can install the extension as you normally do.

If you don’t want to modify yourself, you can also download the modified add-on by me below.
