Rename Media is a new WordPress plugin that allows you to rename image and video files after you upload them through WordPress.
When you directly upload a media file from your camera to a WordPress site, it carries with it the original filename. That is not changed even if you rename the title. This plugin ensures that the filename changes along with the title and doing so will also help in optimizing your site for search engines.
When you rename an image file all the resized thumbnails are also renamed with it.
An example from the author:
You upload an image from your digital camera with a filename IMG_0112.jpg.
Not a great name really.
Afterwards you change the title of the image in WordPress to ‘Sunset With Banana’.
Much more interesting, but the filename of the image is still IMG_0112.jpg.
Using this plugin the filename will also change to sunset-with-banana.jpg, which as well as looking nicer is a lot better for SEO.
Note: The plugin will not update references to already uploaded image URLs in your content.

Hi,
sounds interesting 🙂
Does it work with the plugin ‘SEO friendly images’?
I mean with leaving the ‘title’ and ‘alternate text’ open in wordpress, but with the generated image title and alt tags from SEO friendly images? (they won;t show up in the wordpress image info, but they are coded in the page).
Thank you very much and keep up the good work,
Itam.
