Windows 8: Enable Automatic Logon

Print View Mobile View

Windows 8 users have the option to set up a variety of login methods on Windows 8, which includes legacy Username and Password login method, Microsoft Account based authentication method, and two new touch screen optimized methods: Picture based authentication method and Pin based authentication method. However, if you are the only person using the computer, you can choose to bypass the Windows logon entirely and directly load the operating system. Here’s how.

Configure Windows 8 to Sign in Automatically

Bring up the Run box by pressing Windows + R keys together. When it opens, type in netplwiz and hit Enter. This will open the User Accounts dialog box.

Windows 8 Auto Logon

Select your account from the list of users and then uncheck the “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer” checkbox. Click the OK button. This will bring up the “Automatically sign in” dialog, where you will need to input your password twice then click OK.

Windows 8 Auto Logon 2

Click OK again to close the User Accounts dialog and you’re good to go.

That’s all there is to it. The next time your system starts, you will be directly logged into your account without having to enter a password.

The configuration method shown above will work in Windows 7 and Windows Vista as well.
